Subject: Towards a scientific and societal agenda on extra-terrestrial life

Is there any information, a review, summary video or transcript available to the public following this debate please?
=========================

The Meeting has been digitally recorded and will available on the Royal Society website shortly afterwards.

The digital recording can sometimes take up to 3 weeks to become available on the Royal Society website.
Having said this, the Kavli Centre is relatively new and the webpage for our audio files is still being worked on.
It should be up in time for the extra-terrestrial meeting and you should be able to access the files via the following instructions:
- Go to royalsociety.org
- Select the Events option in the tab
- Select royalsociety.tv in the tab
- Scroll down the page and select 'Listen to: discussion meetings; podcasts'
- Click on 'discussion meetings' and find the meeting of interest

There is a related lecture by Professor Paul Davies called

The eerie silence: are we alone in the universe?

I just watched it, and he presents some interesting points about SETI and where we should be looking for alien life. However, at the end in the question time, when someone asked why we dont ask the military for the answers, he did not reply with anything much. He has a good position at Arizona State University and I guess he wants to keep his job! The lecture lasts just over an hour and he is a good speaker.

I wonder if there will be a video or podcast of "Towards a scientific and societal agenda on extra-terrestrial life" it would be interesting to watch/listen.

So, the learned experts are taking the existence of extraterrestrial life seriously and about time too.

I hope they make a video of the proceedings so we can all see and hear what they have to say on the topic.

Looks like disclosure may be coming soon, but I will not hold my breath on that.

Towards a scientific and societal agenda on extra-terrestrial life“

Organised by Dr Martin Dominik and Professor John Zarnecki

Should extra-terrestrial life exist, upcoming efforts will provide living generations with a realistic chance of its detection. Even more than the scientific agenda, a corresponding complementary societal agenda needs to be debated. With a mix of invited talks and panel debates, we particularly look into the detection of life, the communication with potential extra-terrestrial civilizations, the implications for the future of humanity, and the political processes that are required.

Four panel debates include

Calling ET, or not even answering the phone?

Societal questions raised by the detection of extra-terrestrial life

What could studies of extra-terrestrial life tell us about the future of humanity?

Extra-terrestrial life and arising political issues for the UN agenda

Confirmed panelists

Ivan Almar, Stephen Baxter, James Benford, David Brin, Milan Cirkovic, Richard Crowther, Kathryn Denning, Steven Dick, Stephane Dumas, Frans von der Dunk, John Elliott, Lisa Kaltenegger, Claudio Maccone, Michael Michaud, Mazlan Othman, Ted Peters, Margaret Race, Seth Shostak, John Smart, Nicholas Tosca, Doug Vakoch, Clement Vidal, Felisa Wolfe-Simon, Alexander Zaitsev
