qmantoo, I think you are correct on that point.

Shown below is a typical example of different imaging in GE.

The left section, which is ideal for exploration, is provided by Digital Globe. The right section is provided by the US Geological Survey and is practically useless for any in-depth exploration.

as always - yes. In all areas of our life.

Although, no-one can say what is deliberate or not unless we are privvy to the thoughts and workings of Google Earth. It could be just a difference in the image quality they receive from their partners in space imaging.

The GE image shown below is a split image of the ice on Antarctica.

The left half has been processed using Photoshop. The right half is the original.

It would appear that the quality in some of the images from GE is being deliberately restricted to hide important surface detail.

The color saturation has been reduced.
