tomg, Thanks for your comments and observations.

There are some things on the surface of Phobos that definitely appear to be artificial.

The formation of the striped patterning is much too precise to be natural formations.

There are similarities with some of the surface features seen on Mars, the moon and this planet.

Whether there is anything similar on Venus or Mercury I cannot be sure as I have not done very much research of these two planets.

Also, take note of the large object in the crater. I have lightened the image so the object can be seen more clearly.

Those look like the same creatures that the aliens draw almost everyplace they go.  I assume they are likenesses of themselves.  You can see the same ones on Antarctica, and many other places on Earth, with Google Earth.

EDIT: Sorry.  I posted that this morning after having no sleep and then having been vomited-on by a two-year-old.  And I haven't had a two-year-old child around here for about twenty-two years, until a couple of weeks ago.  So I totally missed the mark, in several threads, this morning.

First, I am no Phobos expert.  And I am no Photoshop expert.  I thought that I had read somewhere that the stripes had been formed when the largest crater, Stickney, was formed.  But I found what looks like the same HIRISE image that you posted (or maybe its sister image; there were two, made 10 minutes apart, on 23 March 2008), with an explanation of the stripes that seems to contradict that, at:

http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/multimedia/display.cfm?Category=Planets&IM_ID=6103

I downloaded the full-resolution 32627 kB image as a bitmap and opened it with Photoshop Elements 12, rotated it left by 90 degrees, magnified it by some amount, I think, opened a new "Levels"-type Adjustment Layer, and cranked down one of the master RGB Levels slider controls (upper left black one), and got an image that is very, very similar to the image that you posted.

Even though the official explanation says that the stripes are not related to Stickney's formation (or at least are not all radial from Stickney), I see a large white area inside the crater and white lines that look like they washed over the rim (perhaps when molten).  So I could tend to believe (but without much scientific support) that many of the large group of vertical white stripes in these particular images COULD originally have been formed when something smashed into Phobos and formed Stickney crater.  BUT, as far as their current geometries are concerned, i.e. the more-complex non-parallel and non-radial/vertical parts of the stripes and the shapes made from them, I would have to assume that much of that would have to have been altered or added, later, possibly by the intelligent beings who added some of the other images on Phobos.  On the other hand, if they could do that then they also could have created the stripes, originally.

I have been meaning to post this image for some time but other things keep coming up to research.

This is an animation of Phobos showing the unusual stripes on the surface.

Does anyone have an idea what this phenomenon could be?
