There is speculation that it is unusual - that it might possibly be an old metal spaceship. This is because the shape structure and characteristics are nothing like what we have seen before. It seems this is a first. Probably a good idea to go onto astrophysics and space forums and read what is said about it.
Very interesting but.... If it was interstellar debris from a system many light years away then all the fragments would be light years apart by now. I do not think we should have to worry about a shotgun blast from billions of miles away. (I hope) In any case thanks for the heads up on this. Hawking is one of those I trust.
