Hey Ken, is this the obelisk or pillar you're talking about?  I was looking for the cropped area you posted in the photo but I'm not having much luck.  I like looking at the Rocknest area there are a lot of anomalies.  If this is the right area where is the skull in relation to the obelisk?

No  that is not the obelisk  I was referring in the post, but I had already spotted that one already.

The pillar or short obelisk with these skull carving(s) that I am seeing  have a blunt top.

What I am trying to show and referring to in my original post is found in this very same panorama  http://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/jpeg/PIA16453.jpg that you were already scrutinizing.

And it is located at the third quarter starting from the left of the horizontal adjustment  in the panorama navigation control and the first one third ( starting from the top) in the vertical adjustment  control of the panorama.

                             or even simpler

The location is at the third quarter horizontal and first third vertical of the panorama rectangle.

I also found the 2nd  grotesque/comical skull and pillar or obelisk carving .

This second Skull/Pillar combo is located on the same panorama again  http://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/jpeg/PIA16453.jpg   and it is at the first quarter horizontal and the first third vertical  of the panorama rectangle.   This is one just one single grotesque/ comical skull carving and a short pillar.

I hope that helps.

8ccaa4b7-2301-47c3-bf6e-25a06865fe0d.jpgThis is a direct (fuzzy) screen shot from the PIA 16453 panorama that shows what looks to be more than one humanoid like skull carvings in a group with a small pillar or obelisk very close by.

I spotted this skull type carving in close proximity to a pillar or short obelisk in other Mars rover photos or other areas of the same panorama.

The carving has the usual grotesque and almost comical cartoonish look to it, and I imagine it to be a large carving but I have no reference to compare its size, although I could almost swear that there is the figure of a human like child ( similar to the size of a 5yr old) next to the pillar.

This is from this panorana:  http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PIA16453-MarsCuriosityRover-RocknestPanorama-20111126.jpg
