yes, you're right Xenon. How stupid of me, must be my age... The sundial backs it up with a shadow which shows the sun is almost overhead.

 

There are black areas following the wiring too. (trying to redeem himself)

 Sorry if this sounds obvious, but could it be shadows from the sun being directly overhead? just a thought

See your point Q, but could it be a mosaic image ? I don't understand why they do that on small shots, perhaps they need to obscure something on one and they have not labelled it as a mosaic. Nicely spotted smile
