The Image DK last post on Skippers site ( here ) got me thinking about the water and where it has gone, if you look at the recent images from Mars most show little round holes on the surface strewn rocks and surface geology, also in DKs image there is obviously signs of flowing water and very fine dark sediment, but I believe his image is not what it seems , if you bring up the contrast the first thing you will notice is that the image was taken at night under artificial light , the second thing you notices is the  background "mud", is still partly damp showing that water/liquid has recently been present at the surface, there also seems to be a bacteria/fungus? growing between the cracks (notice its slight reflectivity), maybe the water rises up to the surface on tides, then the fluid would drain back under the surface as the tides recede, if life does follow the water then we know why we see very little of it on the drier surface.

Great thread by the way

Edited to add.... This is of course just my opinion, and if true then we are reminded of the flood stories from our distant past which state that the "waters rose from below", science already believe Mars could have subsurface oceans, if Martian waters are breaking to the surface (in the way I now believe they are), then it is possible that these tides from underground oceans could take months or even decades to complete their cycle, decades old images of the Martian surface may show standing water and because of the present tide cycle the surface has become dryer, we have already noticed damp soils in the rover tracks, and we have discovered Ice under the surface soils, lets not forget surface water on Mars dissipates in in the daytime unless it has shade or covered in soil, night time on Mars may show a different world altogether.

I am currently having a discussion with someone on ATS about the wind and how they say it is weaker than weak. Now... if this wind is that weak it would probably have deposited fine dust and sand over all of the surface of Mars not just the areas in the lee of rocks. The Martian atmosphere is supposed to be red because there is so much red dust in it.  Even the smallest particles come down to land sometimes and over millions of years there will be a blanket of dust - or so I would have thought.

I just cannot see how this would work with the areas of fine grey dust/sand shown in these pictures.

Yeah Gman, I know what you mean about the lies but it really looks like it's been sand blasted instead of water eroded.  I see what you mean about the blueish area with no detail.  If there is standing water there they've done another great job of hiding it.  The slate piece on the left looks like sheet metal to me.

I can definitely see some tampering going on here at the bottom right of the blueish area.

I guess this is another one of those that show you are all too polite to say there is no water there.

However, along with a lot of science, there are some very good other images of it on this thread I started on ATS

On page 7 or 8 there is even a picture showing how the water changes the colour of the two rocks half in the water and half out.

That is very convincing plus the fact that you can see MORE detail in the shadow rather than less detail. This is indicative of looking into the water at the pebbles on the bottom of the puddle. Normally there is LESS detail in the shadow than in the full light areas.

OK, I want to suggest that there is visible standing water in this picture. PIA16550

To me, this is showing standing water beneath these shale-like ledges. I can see the reflection - just like you can when you go for a walk beside the river here on Earth.
If you had not been TOLD there was no water currently on Mars, wouldn't you just assume these were puddles of water? It suddenly came into mind that this is what we are being shown here.

Copied from here

Original links
JPL.NASA
Photojournal page with tif format (not that it is much better at 8Mb)

The water I see is under the slate overhangs in the lower left quadrant.

On the middle left edge of the image there is a piece of flat slate angled downwards and underneath that and to the right and left of it there appears to be water. There is no detail in the area to the right of the flat slate but it is grey reflection of water which is lighter. (outlined in pink)

What gives this away as water is that you can see THROUGH the water to the ground below where there is shadow a little further to the right. In the grey area, you can only see lighter reflection and NO detail. (which you would be able to if it was not a reflection)

To those who say that standing water is not possible, step outside the box for a moment and consider what if we are seeing water here, all you have been told are lies.

If you do not see water, please explain the paragraph above - the grey featureless area and the black detailed area of shadow.
