When is a Compression Artifact NOT a Compression Artifact ?
(Preview)
I have been looking at this old Moon photo and it seems to me there are so many compression artifacts in it, but...are they? Some 'structures' are nothing like the regular compression artifacts I have seen before in images of off-world places. So, what are they? Maybe they are ice crystals on the windo...

Lunar Far side anomaly

Turning my attention to the 'Far Side' of the moon these past few months I have come across a number of 'interesting' anomalies. The slide below shows just one of these. Images of similar anomalies but in different locations

I have created a new topic so I can bring together similar anomalies I have found which are in different locations on the lunar surface. To find 2 or even 3 examples of the same anomaly is hard but hopefully worth the effort. The 1st set of images look at what I call the 'oil can' or 'camera like' anomaly....

Observers may remember the excitement generated in 2009 by the moon explosion and the picture that came out at the time showing a so called moon base on the desk of the NASA employee? Here is a view captured by Apollo 16. (AS16_P_4095) What the long white streak is I do not know. Is it for real or is it something to do with the processing of the image?
